Magnificent seven put bite into 'arts taste'

Gladstone Campus lecturer Lyn Hughes has expressed pride at the success of 7 Early Childhood education students who have made the harbour city's recent (May 24) 'Taste an Arts Sensation' event so successful.

This event, part of Under Eights Week, was designed to allow children to experience the 5 strands of the arts - Dance, Music, Drama, Visual Arts and Media - and to be involved in a visual arts competition.

Creative ambassador and television actor Paul Bishop* was on hand to support the event. Paul, a native of Gladstone and recently starring in TV's Blue Heelers, spoke passionately about the arts and the role it plays in a child's development.

He then took time out to speak with the CQUniversity students about his working life and the need for creativity to be developed in all of us.

Ms Hughes said she was impressed because the students had taken on all of the organising and planning for the event themselves.

The organising students aimed to:

- re-emphasise the importance of creativity in education and of the Arts;

- lift the profile of young children and Early Childhood Services;

- and to allow children to create new ideas, new approaches and new actions through creativity within The Arts.
