The Performance Leadership workshop - Choosing to Lead - enabled 20 Divisional Directors and Deans to discuss the challenges of leadership and how to be more adaptive to the evolving environment. The workshop was a collaborative opportunity for Directors and Deans to get to know one another and discuss the issues and opportunities as a team.

Graham Black, Director CQUniversity Library says "the workshop was really interesting and useful. It provided some new insights into leadership strategies and it gave us all an opportunity to meet and work with colleagues from the faculties and other directorates.  I was the ‘old stager' in our group. It was great to see the enthusiasm of the new Deans and Directors and it made me appreciate the various issues and challenges they face as we work towards becoming a great university".

Vice-Chancellor Bowman's comments to the Executive Leadership team session were "The key to renewal at CQUniversity is engagement. We need to embed engagement in all that we do. I want CQUniversity to be an organisation where it's a great place to come to work; where people can progress and develop; where there is some autonomy and an environment that encourages ideas and where we have a sense of fun. I want us all to recognise the work people do and be a values-based organisation."

The Executive Leadership team was lucky enough to have Keith Fennell, author of Warrior Training: The Making of an Australian SAS Soldier to co-facilitate the session and provide insight into the challenges that all organisations share.

This workshop is one of two that will be held during 2011 that will provide the Executive team the opportunity to clarify the expectations of the University and to determine the key priorities as we progress in our renewal efforts.
