Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Former teen mother Sainiana Waqainabete is looking forward with pride to her CQU graduation ceremony on March 4, after completing a Masters in Management degree.

    The Fijian professional believes her story could be an inspiration to other teenage mothers.

  • Education graduate heads coal mine safety training project

    CQU Learning Management graduate Tianyu Hei - known as Helen - is now working for ASIG (Australia Strategy Investment Group) as a purchase officer and is in charge of a coal mine safety training project.

    The project is in cooperation with SIMTARS (Safety in Mines Testing and Research Station) and Helen plays a vital role to help SIMTARS seek a partner from China for its coal mine safety training.

  • Graduate supports world record swim

    Former CQU Health and Human Performance student Ben Dascombe had a supporting role in the lead-up to Eamon Sullivan's world record 50m swim on the weekend.

    Dr Dascombe, who completed his undergraduate, postgraduate and research studies with CQU in Rockhampton, is now the swimming sports physiologist at the Western Australian Institute of Sport.

  • Student recalls 'laborious' first day of uni

    This week has brought back a number of remarkable memories for Central Queensland University Bundaberg  nursing student Tara Byrnes.

    This time last year she recalls being 2 weeks' overdue for the birth of her second child, attending Uni Skills Week at CQU, going into labour in the middle of a lesson, giving birth to a healthy baby boy (Reilly) a few hours later, and being back on campus a few days later for orientation week.
