Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    While some teenagers struggled to keep occupied during the recent school holidays, Danica Berry spent her time learning how to work with high-powered lasers, an electron microscope and electrical circuits.

    Danica spent the first week of her holidays working with Central Queensland University's Process Engineering and Light Metals (PELM) research centre at the Gladstone campus as part of her school's work experience program.

    A variety of bands, performers, singers, movers and groovers from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music at CQU Mackay are pooling their talents in a musical extravaganza known as The Big Night In, the final Conservatorium performance for the year.

    Derrin Kerr, Lecturer at CQCM's Jazz department, is busy helping students get their acts together, polishing already-formed ensembles and singing groups for a concert that is guaranteed to go off with a bang!

    "There's going to be a bit of reggae, country, radio jazz, African music, rock n pop, a jazz orchestra and even a devo band," said Derrin.

  • Classical music stars fly in for free concerts

    World-class performers will fly in from overseas for free concerts in Mackay and Rockhampton (November 1 and 2) and members of the public are welcome to attend.

    Canadian violinist Jasper Wood and American pianist Bradley Blackham will perform in the events designed to welcome Dr Kevin Purcell as the new Professor and Director of Music & Performing Arts at Central Queensland University.
