CQU proud to host world-class process industry research

Central Queensland's world-class process industries now have a world-class research and development centre in Queensland's busiest port.

High-quality staff, equipment and multifunctional facilities have been assembled at Central Queensland University Gladstone, located on Gladstone's marina.

The Process Engineering Light Metals Centre (PELM) will offer technical solutions to a range of industries throughout the region and is ideally positioned in a global light metals hub.

The PELM centre will be officially opened tomorrow (Friday, October 31) by Queensland State Development Minister Hon.Tom Barton.

CQU Vice-Chancellor Professor Glenice Hancock praised the joint initiative between the University, the Queensland Government and local industries and cited it as an excellent example of what can be achieved through collaborative partnerships.

Professor Hancock also confirmed CQU's commitment to being responsive to the needs of the communities in which it operates.

The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the perseverance and drive of all those involved in the initiative.

PELM had already hosted a national light metals conference and had appointed senior researchers and postgraduate students.

CQU was investing substantial amounts in PELM scientific equipment.

Professor Hancock said PELM provided a focus for collaborative research and research informed by industry consultation, complementing the industry-focused postgraduate degree programs based at CQU Gladstone.

As well as the staff based at CQU Gladstone, the centre is drawing on the expertise of researchers throughout the CQU network and throughout its partner organisations.
