Project team formed to upgrade HR info system

A project team (pictured) has been formed to facilitate the upgrade and improvement of the CQU Human Resources Information System (HRIS).

The team has been formed under the leadership of the Executive Director (Resources).

The HRIS currently enables staff to be paid every fortnight and is used for other operational HR needs such as keeping track of leave and personal details.

PhotoID:3387 The HRIS that has been used by CQU, previously known as Concept, is now known as Alesco.

The team for phase one of the project was formed after discussion with senior management in the divisions of IT and HR.

Staff selection took into account expert skills, knowledge and availability. Additional support for technical aspects of the upgrade is being provided by staff from ITD.

The first priority of the project team is to ensure the smooth transition of the system from the current version of Alesco (v8.06), to the latest version of the software (v10).

This activity does not involve changing the existing configuration of the system and the associated business processes.

Longer term objectives of the HRIS project will focus on conducting a detailed review and redesign of the configuration of the system; a major review of current HR practices and processes; and the rollout of additional system functionality.

The additional functionality available includes web access for employees. This will be via an Employee Self Service website, which can allow staff to access their own personal information, payslips, payment summaries and details of approved leave.

This will enable improved use of the range of functions within the HRIS to better support the University’s operational and HR information needs.

The initial phase of the project (upgrading to version 10), is planned for completion by mid-November 2006. Please be aware that this may involve an early cut-off for submission of timesheets and claims. This may be essential to allow sufficient time for payroll processing to occur so that the distribution of salary payments will not be affected. Salaries officers will notify their relevant contacts about this matter.

Subsequent phases of the project are being scheduled for release during the 2007 calendar year.

More information about the project team, project objectives and schedule can be found on the HR systems page of the HR website:.
