Gala Concert marks opening of CQCM year

The Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music 2005 concert season will open with a bang on Saturday, March 19, with a gala performance at the Conservatorium Theatre at 8pm.

The Gala Concert marks the first of many events for 2005 that highlight the talents of the staff and students at the Conservatorium.

CQCM Sub-Dean Judith Brown said the night of entertainment features the talent of the CQCM staff and visiting staff and students.

“All styles of music will be covered from the best of the classics to the swing of jazz and the soaring melodies of music theatre,” she said.

“Mackay audiences have already been enthralled by the talents of former Ten Tenors artistic director Kim Kirkman who joins the CQCM staff this year, bringing his amazing vocal talents to this opening Gala Concert.

“CQCM also welcomes to the Mackay staff Deborah Mills, a dance-theatre practitioner and educator from Sydney whose professional work is at the cutting edge of contemporary music theatre. Her work will be showcased on film during the performance.

“The CQCM jazz program regularly brings visiting artists to work with students and staff in Mackay, and they will also feature in the gala concert playing in a staff and student jazz combo that is sure to please.".
