Mackay graduate lands dream job

A Mackay information technology graduate has successfully landed her dream job with the help of Central Queensland University.

Not only did CQU provide Leanne Malczewski with the knowledge and qualifications to nab the IT position with the Health Insurance Commission (HIC), but also informed her of the position and mediated her application through the University's employment website, Career Hub.

PhotoID:1765 After successfully completing her Bachelor of Information Technology degree at CQU Mackay, Leanne will begin her new position as analyst programmer in the Applications Branch of HIC in Canberra in January. HIC is the body responsible for Medicare and the Family Assistance Office.

Her new position involves the development, implementation and maintenance of HIC application systems.

"After so many years of study I am looking forward to working in an area that I enjoy, and where I also have the opportunity to move up in the organisation," Leanne explained.

"My friends and family are happy for me - they know I've worked very hard for the past three years and are pleased that I have found employment quickly.".

Leanne attributed her successful placement to the quality of the IT degree offered by CQU.

"I believe my continual study of a number of programming languages at CQU helped me secure this job.

"I learnt about the software development process, and an understanding of that area was a key requirement for this job.".

Leanne chose CQU to study with because of the large range of subject areas available through the IT degree.

"We weren't required to pick a major straight away and this appealed to me as I wasn't sure at the time what area I wanted to head into. I wanted to study a bit of everything.".

Leanne said she enjoyed the relaxed environment of CQU.

"It was a very friendly and comfortable place to study. I also appreciated the online support available, including the mailing lists and course websites.".
