Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Wanted: Young Achievers 

Applications for the Queensland Young Achiever of the Year Award, sponsored in part by CQU, are now being received by organisers. CQU sponsors one of seven categories -- the Career Achievement Award, in recognition of young people (up to age 26) enjoying challenging and rewarding career success.

You may want to nominate a student, recent CQU graduate or staff members who display leadership and commitment while making meaningful contributions to our communities. The winner of each category will be presented with a $2000 savings account and receive media coverage.

Applications and posters are available at Queensland campuses or on line at http://www.awardsaustralia.com/YAA_qld.html. Nominations close 30 June.

The seven categories in the Queensland Young Achievers Award include: Arts, Sports, Community Services. The Environment, Career Achievement, Science & Technology and the Regional Initiative Award.

The awards applaud leadership, vision and commitment while fostering the pursuit of excellence and highlighting the efforts and success of young people making meaningful contributions to their community.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Angela Delves will be among the judging panel which is comprised of awards patrons, presenters, sponsors, community leaders and independent experts.

Please note that nominees must be Australian citizens and a resident of Queensland for a minimum of two years. People currently residing outside of Queensland temporarily due to work or study commitments are still eligible to enter.
