Father and son both 'master' graduation

John Mcarthur said it was a great experience to graduate at the same ceremony as his son (Luke) in Rockhampton recently - especially as both completed Masters degrees.

Mcarthur senior, 48, works in Townsville as a QR locomotive manager and graduated with a Masters in Maintenance Management.

Mcarthur junior, 26, works for Rio Tinto as a research scientist at Yarwun and graduated with a Masters in Physics.

"Luke has a great interest in Physics and delivering business outcomes through science and technology, whilst my interest is in cost effective asset life-cycle management," John said.

"The education through CQUniversity has opened opportunities for both of us to enter industry in our chosen fields so that we can continue to develop our skills and expertise in those fields."

John said another factor in common was that "we both enjoy fishing as a hobby".
