Teens keen to get chemistry right at campuses

Teenage chemistry students gathered at CQUniversity Rockhampton, Gladstone and Bundaberg campuses recently (August 14) to compete in the regional round of the annual Australian National Chemical Analysis Competition.
Meanwhile, Tannum Sands State High competed in its own school chemistry laboratory.
Toolooa State High School students Lisa Eising, Lisa Peterson and Kirsty Younger compete in the competition held in Gladstone.The students from Years 10-12 competed in the CQ Regional Titration Competition, with each team including 3 members. Winners were judged on their accuracy in reporting on an unknown acetic acid solution.
The CQ regional competition, a joint activity of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and CQUniversity (College of Sciences, Facutly of Sciences, Engineering and Health), has been held each year since the mid-1980s. Leading teams are eligible to enter the finals of the national competition to be held in October.
Schools competing at Bundaberg Campus were: Bundaberg North and Bundaberg State;
Schools competing at Gladstone Campus were: Chanel College and Toolooa State;
Schools competing at Rockhampton Campus were: Cathedral College, Rockhampton Girls' Grammar, Rockhampton Grammar and Emmaus College.
Congratulations to the winners: North Bundaberg 2 (first); Rockhampton Grammar 2 (second); North Bundaberg 1 (third); Rockhampton Grammar 1 (fourth).
These top 4 teams are invited to take part in the national finals competition to be held on October 16.
