CQU Rockhampton’s newest students may be finding university a little less daunting now that Orientation Week is all over.
Orientation is the first official week designed to help first-year students settle into their studies quickly.
Students were able to organise study times and purchase textbooks; familiarise themselves with library services; connect with other students and staff; and ensure that they are ready to begin their academic program on day one of the term.
On Wednesday March 1, the CQU Student Association held various information sessions for students as the mentors conducted tours around campus.
CQUSA staff provided students with their Orientation Sample Bag, which included a free Student Diary, Wall Planner and stickers along with soft drink, potato chips, stress balls (cows), BirdCage Bar Calendar, CQUSA Services fliers, various discount offers and Queensland Health packs.
The BirdCage Bar’s Calendar was jam-packed for Orientation Week and will be so for months to come, highlighting touring artists including Endorphin, Alex Lloyd and The Whitlams.
Students enjoyed a variety of events over the week, attending the ever-popular Toga Party, comedy act 'Tripod', URI Party and Live Band ‘Guilty by Association’ before having to settle into the first week of their academic studies. For event details contact the bar on 07 4930 9207 or 07 4930 9774.
Next week, the Student Association will be holding a ‘UniMart’ Day on Wednesday March 15, from 11am to 2pm on the grass lawn behind the Amphitheatre.
There will be a range of stalls for students to browse through. Various local businesses and community groups will be displaying local discounts, freebies, services, recreational activities, clubs, banks and more. Any local businesses or community groups interested in booking a stall are asked to call 07 4930 9656.
