Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Lynne Foley BIO 

Lynne Foley, BEc, DipEd Qld, AMusA, AFAIM, GAICD is the Director of the Brisbane North Institute of TAFE (BNIT), an institution with enrolments exceeding 30 000 students.

Originally a secondary school teacher, Lynne taught a variety of subjects in schools in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast and became the Deputy Principal at Moranbah State High School in 1987.  This heralded a long association with education across Central and North Queensland.

She progressed to the position of Regional Executive Director of Rockhampton District of Education Queensland, where she was responsible for 126 state schools across Central Queensland.

As a member of the CQUniversity Australia Council since 2002, Lynne has served as a member of several committees with a particular interest in strategic business leadership and governance.

She has also worked in partnership with the development of CQUniversity's innovative Bachelor of Learning Management program and has contributed greatly to the education of young people, and to the development of teachers and administrators across the region.

In recent times, Lynne has taken the opportunity to work internationally, through an Endeavour Executive Award from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, where she worked with the Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam.

She continues to further develop international business opportunities for BNIT.

As a community member, Lynne has been involved in Rotary and Zonta Clubs, and has filled a role as a leader and trainer with Guides Australia.

Lynne is an accomplished musician and has been a member of a number of bands and orchestras, as well as directing many plays and musicals
