Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Focus on criminal intervention following domestic violence 

The criminal justice process relating to breaches of domestic violence orders will be discussed during a free presentation hosted by the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research.

The presentation by Dr Heather Douglas* (UQ), from 11.30am-12.30pm on Thursday, June 4, will be conducted on our Mackay Campus, with video links to Thursday Island, Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Gladstone, Emerald, Mt Isa and Brisbane.

The event is co-hosted by CQUniversity's Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Health Distinguished Visitor's Program.

* Associate Professor Heather Douglas researches in the area of criminal justice. She is particularly interested in how the criminal justice system impacts on women. She has previously worked as a lawyer in Melbourne and at the Aboriginal Legal Service in Alice Springs. While in Alice Springs, she co-founded and worked at Domestic Violence Legal Help (now the Domestic Violence Legal Service). She is the co-author of Criminal Process in Queensland and numerous other publications.
