Multicultural message expressed through multimedia

Primary school students in Rockhampton, in Central Queensland, are learning about multiculturalism through multi-media workshops and a competition.
Central Queensland University is coordinating workshops for students in digital imagery, culminating in a competition with a great prize pool.
CQU's Bachelor of Learning Management students are mentoring the school students and supporting their teachers through continuous multimedia workshops during their practical placements at the schools.
Multicultural Affairs Queensland has funded the project through a Multicultural Assistance Program grant. It is part of a 3-year grant which commenced in 2005 and culminates this year. In 2005, the workshops were open to whole of community and last year for high school students.
The competition requires students collaborate to create a multimedia presentation about multiculturalism in Australia. This could include history, contemporary issues, stories of inclusion and diversity or other ideas that include the ethos of acceptance in modern Australian society.
Students in Prep to year 3 may choose to create a story book or other image driven media using digital images created or modified by the students. Students in year 4 to 7 are required to use media that utilizes digital video images created or modified by the students.
Winners will be announced at the CQU Multicultural Fair and Open Day on August 12. A selection of winning entries will also be displayed at the event.
