Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Around 40 celebrate STEPS in Gladstone 

A total of 38 students celebrated completion of their STEPS program in Gladstone this week, and many friends and family members turned out to support them.

Tricia Stewardson gave a response speech on behalf of the Extended STEPS group, Debra Lait spoke about the Flex experience and Jodi Reynolds represented the Accelerated program.

Also speaking was past STEPS graduate Margi Keefe, who has just finished her Bachelor of Learning Management Primary - Catholic Education degre and has been offered a job at the Star of The Sea Catholic School in Gladstone.

STEPS, or Skills for Tertiary Entrance Preparatory Studies, has been successful over many years helping students without recent senior high school experience progress into university.

STEPS gives participants the confidence, skills and attitudes required for success at in tertiary education environment.
