Central Queensland University has secured almost $6000 in grants from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) – a joint initiative of Arts Queensland and Rockhampton City Council.

CQU’s Faculty of Education & Creative Arts has secured a $2860 grant to stage an art exhibition as part of Rockhampton’s Under 8s Week, while Community Relations will receive $3000 for cultural workshops prior to the CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day.

Coordinated by Gillian Busch, CQU’s Under 8s Week from May 25 to 31 will include an exhibition of children’s art, Exhibition on Quay, collated by Early Childhood Education staff and curated by CQU’s Deann Campbell-Muir.

Kids on Quay Artists’ workshops will also operate which will include drum-making, drama and dance, painting and clay work. CQU Early Childhood students will coordinate this event.

Community Relations’ $3000 grant will enable Seaman Dan, a Torres Strait Island entertainer, to perform and conduct workshops prior to and on the day of the CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day.

Corporate events officer Gina Yarrow said Seaman Dan would conduct cultural workshops with schools, the CQU Foundation Program, community groups and the Torres Strait Islander community prior to the Fair, as well as performing on the day of the Fair, August 17.

Ms Yarrow said our local Torres Strait Islander people are very excited to have Seaman Dan come to our region and are planning to have a Torres Strait celebration in honour of his visit.
