CQU Vice-Chancellor Professor Glenice Hancock this week joined Australia's other university heads at National Parliament for the inaugural Universities Meet Parliament event.
The VCs took a key message - investing in Australia's universities is an investment in securing the nation's future.
The three-day event, involving a range of meetings and occasions, is a major Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee initiative.
AVCC president Professor Deryck Schreuder said the annual event was particularly important as universities assumed a greater role in the future economic well-being of the nation.
The event comes on the eve of Parliament's consideration of a major package of reforms for the sector.
Prime Minister John Howard was the main speaker at the Universities Meet Parliament gala dinner, attended by more than 300 of Australia's leading business, industry and community leaders.
