Open learning specialist visits from London

Pam Shakespeare, the Professor of Practice Based Open Learning at the UK Open University, shared her experience on flexible learning and teaching enviroments with CQU staff on July 3-4.
The Open University was the world's first successful distance teaching university.
The visitor's presentations in Rockhampton were videoconferenced to other CQU campuses and she was able to workshop with a range of staff from CQU, the Faculty and the library during her visit.
Professor Shakespeare was invited to CQU by Dr Patrick Keleher and Dr Lorna Moxham as part of the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering & Health's Distinguished Visitor Program.
Pam was formly invited by Lorna and I as part of the Faculty's Distinguished Visitor program and Pam was able to workshop with a range of staff from CQU, the Faculty and the library during her visit.
Professor Shakespeare spent 3 years (2002-2004) as Director of the OU's innovative distance learning nursing qualification program.
She is currently Director of one of the UK Higher Education Funding Council National Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Practice Based Professional Learning (PBPL/CETL).
Her main interest is in pedagogy and she has an extensive career history in pedagogy relating to open learning.
Professor Shakespeare has done a substantial amount of consultancy work advising other organisations on developing open learning and accessible documentation, writing books and manuals and academic editing. She has advised on open learning in several European funded projects.
