Mackay Orchestra Beefed Up for Sweet Sounds

Mackay Youth Orchestra will be beefed up for a combined concert with Rockhampton Youth Orchestra, the first of its type in the sugar city, from 2pm on Sunday (May 26) at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music Theatre.

Conservatorium lecturer Dimitri Kopanakis, who is conductor and musical director for both groups, said the beef and sugar city musicians would also combine for workshops on May 24-26.

He said members of the public were welcome to attend the concert, which would feature more than 80 musicians and popular repertoire from many different musical periods.

"We combined the groups in Rockhampton last year and had a great response," he said.

West Mackay Primary School Choral Group will also perform during the concert. Tickets are $5 and are available on the door. ENDS For details call Dimitri Kopanakis Phone 07 4940 7808 or 0410 527 811
