Budding actor eyes London as centre of the action

The leap from Rockhampton's Pilbeam Theatre to London's West End may seem a big one but Alexis Coward has already taken large strides in her life.

Born in Dubai and schooled in England, Alexis has only been in Australia since the age of 15, so travelling back to the northern hemisphere will be less of a jolt.

The immediate beacon is her acceptance into London's prestigious Rose Bruford College , to study a Masters in Theatre Practices.

Alexis, a 3rd year CQUniversity Bachelor of Performing Arts student, said that her broad range of undergraduate experiences should serve her well as she has to choose a multi-faceted project during her time at the College.

The BPA experience has involved several large-scale theatre productions, including A Chorus Line and Chicago.

And her final show before heading overseas will be Sweet Charity, in which she plays film star Ursula, one of the main roles.

Alexis explained that her physiotherapist mother and dentist father worked overseas for many years, before settling in Hervey Bay, where she attended the Fraser Coast Anglican School.

Her interests include Shakespearean drama, acting, poetry and scuba diving and Rockhampton audiences will get to see her talents as a dancer, actor and singer in Sweet Charity.

The Pilbeam Theatre will be transformed into Charity's dance hall from October 10-11, with performances at 7:30pm Friday and Saturday and a 2pm matinee performance on Saturday October 11.  Contact the Pilbeam Theatre (Dial'n'Charge 4927 4111 or online at http://www.pilbeamtheatre.com.au/ )
