Ron's Wired for Radio

A long term interest in electronics and amateur radio has led to CQU lecturer, Ron Smith being appointed as the Federal Education Officer for the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA).

Ron’s main role will be to upgrade the training and assessment system for the Amateur Radio Service.

“I will also be required to liaise with the Australian Communication Authority, and with schools, universities and TAFE Colleges, radio clubs, youth groups, and other providers of electronic education." “The WIA has over 10 000 members in Australia and the Amateur Radio Service is in every country of the world except two," said Mr Smith.

The Wireless Institute is the oldest radio and electronics association in the world, being founded in 1912.

Activities and interests of WIA members range from simple, one transistor, radio transmitters, right through to the design, manufacture, and launching of communication satellites.
