Matt's hockey success makes mum proud

Long-serving University staff member Kim Gohdes has cheered from the sidelines since her sons played minkey hockey at the tender age of 4.

And now she is cheering for her son Matt on an international stage.

Matt made the Australian Kookaburras late last year and since played for the green and gold around the world.

He played his first games for Australia in May this year at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia, and in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games (which he will be reserve for) has played some friendly games against Argentina in Sydney earlier this month.

"The Argentina games was the first time Matt had played with his cousin, Kookaburra team member and world number one Jamie Dwyer," Kim explained.

In the photo here Matt is pictured with Jamie and Jamie's brother-in-law and fellow Kookaburra Mark Knowles - all Rockhampton boys.

"We are a hockey family," Kim explained. "I have three sons who all play hockey and all started when they were just four-years-old.

"My husband and I played hockey but gave up when our sons started to make rep teams."

Kim said Matt has recently had to relocate to Perth to train with the national team.
