Hamish at epicentre of global research networks

Just before Cyclone Hamish started menacing the coast, Hamish Holewa received the Vice-Chancellor's EXCEL Award for his pivotal role with our International Program of Psycho-Social Health Research (IPP-SHR).

Brisbane-based Hamish, who is program manager for the research body, is the driving force behind innovations enabling worldwide links and audiences.

More than 2000 people around the world have subscribed to receive weekly 'psycho-social' podcasts* and the IPP-SHR website has become integral to its global presence and research procedures. *The latest podcasts and other IPP-SHR services are available via: http://www.ipp-shr.cqu.edu.au/

The program's Quarterly Review (Psycho-Social Update) has a 4800-strong mailing list and is becoming recognised for providing leadership to the psycho-social research industry.

Hamish has also been recognised for extending the readership and financial viability of IPP-SHR's affiliate journal, the Austral-Asian Journal of Cancer (by restructuring for an open access publishing model).

With a reputation extending across the globe, a Danish university asked Hamish to contribute an academic book chapter outlining his innovation in improvement of workþlace practices, procedures and systems. He was also asked to present this work to a number of international conferences and speaking engagements.

Hamish has "contributed significantly to profiling the work of CQUniversity, both nationally and internationally", according to the EXCEL citation, which earmarks general staff excellence.

"You have demonstrated an outstanding contribution to your Faculty and to the University with your highly creative, technically exacting and professional manner in your role as program manager and the ongoing sense of initiative and originality that you bring to your work," it says.
