Striking it lucky by volunteering

For CQU student, Lydia Che, volunteering at the Radisson Hotel in Sydney provided her with the opportunity of a lifetime, gaining a foot in the door of a well known international company.

PhotoID:3817 In April last year Lydia began an Industry Exchange Program through TECC (CQU's Training, Employment & Career Coaching program) as a volunteer in the Accounts Department of the Radisson Hotel, whilst at the same time completing a Masters in Accounting degree at CQU, Sydney International Graduate Campus.

During this time Lydia has worked in areas such as accounts receivable and accounts payable.

“This experience allowed me to put into practice what I had learnt in the classroom,” Lydia said.

Several months of work experience arranged through the TECC Industry Exchange program has now converted into a paid position for Lydia in Accounts Receivable at the Radisson.

Stephen Shao, Finance Manager said: “Lydia has always displayed professionalism while working and her product knowledge has grown immensely”.

Lydia has set the foundation for her career in accounting by volunteering and is a valued addition to the Radisson team.
