Erica also keen on turtle conservation

Erica Todd has spent several vacations during her undergraduate years as a volunteer in marine turtle research and also hopes to continue to help with Greening Australia projects with freshwater turtles.

Some of her volunteer work to date has been aimed at preventing predators accessing nests of the endangered Fitzroy River Turtle.

"We go out at dawn and survey nesting sites along the river banks. We gather data and then protect the nests with mesh," Erica said.

"The hatchlings can get out through the mesh but the eggs are protected."

Anyone else who would like to help protect the Fitzroy River Turtles can contact pmalyszek@qld.greeningaustralia.org.au or 07 4923 7543.
