Kiwanis Club takes part in major Qenos projects

The Kiwanis Club of CQU has recently completed a list of international projects, giving valuable experience to its members.

In recent months, the club has successfully completed a computer hardware and software audit; prepared and donated computers for East Timor; developed a HTML version for the Kiwanis Australia District web site; and connected a small LAN.

PhotoID:284 CQU Kiwanis recently partnered with Robert Knight, Human Resources manager of Qenos International, a major Australian-based plastics and rubber company. The initiative has provided good work experience for students according to Kiwanis Club of CQU President Boriana Statelova. At present the club is working on five projects at Qenos: three website development projects, one marketing and business strategy plan and the Bridge to Asia day. CQU students conducted comprehensive research and provided research findings and specific project proposals.

One team is working on “Courseware Wizard Development” in order to discover the best possible e-learning options for Qenos and its implementation. A second team is developing an “Object Library” for graphics, audio, video etc. Students involved in these projects will be provided with free training from IBM. IBM will donate software for the library development.

The third project underway is the “Screen Capture/Graphic Manipulation”. Students are researching what the best software and hardware solutions would be for the company. The fourth project is the “Life Cycle Management Development”. This team will determine the timelines and milestones for all other projects, considering ongoing maintenance, test and development programs, mechanism for continuous improvement and flexibility.

The fifth project is “Courseware Development”. Creation of the Courseware Wizard will be conducted using a live-training module. It is proposed that the courseware (module) be developed simultaneously with the wizard. Courseware topics include DMS (documents management system) for the existing documents, and ESS (employees self service) course for SAP-HR.

The Club was established in December 2001. A major aim of the club is to provide project-work and technical experience for CQU students.
