The Office of Development & Graduate Relations has enjoyed a relationship with U3A for a number of years, including arranging for its quarterly newsletter to be printed through the University's Publishing Unit and arranging for a number of U3A's monthly guest speakers to come from University ranks.

With a focus on actively engaging themselves in learning opportunities and a 'learning for life' mantra, U3A has a membership of around 300. It conducts monthly meetings at the Frenchville Sports Club on the first Monday of each month (and morning tea is served).

In between monthly meetings, U3A has a large number of activity groups which meet to follow various pursuits. It is some of these groups who will be gathering on campus throughout 2009.  As well, U3A has set up their management office in Building 6/19 with the assistance of Facilities Management.

Meanwhile, U3A President Chris Tollner serves on the Rockhampton Campus Advisory Board and U3A provides an annual Encouragement Award for the most outstanding student in Aged Care Nursing.

Mr Tollner said he was delighted at the opportunities for members in the campus environment.

"I am keen to forge stronger links between the University and our group and we will be looking for ways to make this happen," he said.

The Community Relations Coordinator from the Office of Development & Graduate Relations, Glenys Kirkwood, said the University valued community support.

"We are delighted that our partnership with U3A can be taken to the next level with this move.  I am confident both of our organisations will be enriched by this strengthened partnership.

"I know that U3A members will be made to feel welcome around the campus and I encourage both staff and students to say g'day whenever they can."
