Snapshots show healthy dose of research in CQ region

A series of 5-minute presentation 'snapshots' recently (June 2) provided a speedy overview of projects related to CQU's Healthy Communities research flagship.

More than 30 presentations were presented at (or videoconferenced to) campuses at Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg, Mackay and Emerald.

The free event featured research ranging from sleep problems and drinking water quality to middle-ear infections and the acceptance of overseas-trained doctors.

There were also topics as diverse as ageing athletes, cardiopulmonary resuscitations, fresh fruit, problem gambling, grey nomads, toxins in maize and the prevention of domestic violence.

According to organiser Dr Jim Douglas, the range of research conducted at Central Queensland University that falls under the broad banner of Healthy Communities is rich and complex.

"This Research Showcase is a means of not only communicating to the broader CQU community the types of important  work being undertaken, it also provides an opportunity for fellow researchers to become more aware of what each other is doing," he said.

"This Showcase by no means covers all the areas of research that could be considered as related to Healthy Communities, but it is a significant chance to highlight the worth and depth of work in which all are involved."
