Emerald hosts reconciliation event

CQU Emerald has hosted a reconciliation event as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations.

A Statement of Reconciliation was handed over to descendants from the local Wangan and Kiari tribes.

PhotoID:1017 Campus coordinator Janice Moriarty said the presentation recognised these two tribes, as well as others which had descendants in the area (including Torres Strait Islanders).

"We're acknowledging our responsibility as an educational institution to redress disadvantages and overcome prejudice while also commiting to a way forward by developing mutual goodwill in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people," Ms Moriarty said.
