You can experience a world of ideas and entertainment in your own backyard thanks to the annual CQU Multicultural Fair and Open Day in Rockhampton on Sunday August 12.

You can just wander around on the day but there's no need to wonder what to do, as there's plenty of tips and previews in this liftout and also directions available from the information tent near the main stage during the event.

Here's some tips on how to enjoy yourself:

- Get something to eat and drink; there's stalls representing foods from 12 different nations.

- Enjoy some entertainment on the various stages; there's music, dance, fashion parades and even circus performances and a movie from a range of cultural backgrounds around the world.

- Try to win something; there's plenty of competitions to enter just by getting involved in Open Day activities;

- Look into study and career options for yourself or your family; there will be numerous information sessions and campus tours (just ask at the information tent), and many campus buildings will be open for visitors to roam freely;

- Learn about something you didn't know; there's research, specimens, multimedia shows, interesting facts and cultural displays.

- Try something you've never tried before; you can get hands-on and immerse yourself in a fresh experience.

- See and be seen; around 10,000 people will be milling around, so it's a great people-spotting day.
