CQUni authors behind latest batch of 'Prac Skills' textbooks

CQUniversity academics and a recent graduate have teamed up to produce another three textbooks for the world renowned 'Prac Skills' series, distributed by Pearson Publishing...

Professor Rob Reed and Associate Professor Peter Reaburn have worked with graduate Dr Ben Dascombe to co-author a new textbook Practical Skills in Sport and Exercise Science. Dr Dascombe is now a Lecturer in Exercise and Sport Science at Newcastle University.

Meantime, Professor Reed has also teamed with CQUniversity's Dr Bill Aspden to produce Practical Skills in Food Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, which has specialist sections on topics such as ‘dietary assessment', ‘analytical techniques' and ‘food microbiology'.

And the trifecta comes with Professor Reed's co-authorship of Practical Skills in Chemistry, along with contributors from Northumbria University. The book features numerous margin tips and hints, 'how to' boxes, checklists and worked examples, as well as guidance on numerical aspects, including logarithms and statistics.

Professor Reed is an original collaborator on the Prac Skills textbooks, along with Dr Jonathan Weyers and Dr Allan Jones (both at Dundee University, Scotland).

The Prac Skills series of student textbooks embody the value of subject-specific skills, as well as generic attributes, covering a wide range of aspects of the student learning journey.

Prac Skills textbooks have sold more than 100,000 copies around the world, particularly in Europe and the UK, and they have been translated into a range of languages. Each of the Prac Skills books is designed to provide guidance on a range of topics including basic study, exam, library, IT, communication, laboratory, data analysis and presentation skills.

Professor Reed explained "the books work as companions to students involved in a particular field of study and are designed to take them from their first year at university, right through to their postgraduate years, with many readers keeping our books close to hand throughout their studies".
