Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

New staff begin at CQU Mackay 

Central Queensland University Mackay has welcomed 12 new staff members for the start of 2003 studies.

The Education & Creative Arts faculty has six new members, two of whom are on secondment from Education Queensland.

PhotoID:420Faculty Sub-Dean Associate Professor Bruce Knight said continued growth in education enrolments prompted the increase in staff numbers.

“The increase in permanent staff is very welcome and will have added benefits for the campus and for our students,” he said.

Wendy Ross, Robyn Smith, Liz Legg, Sandra Quinn, Avril Rose and Pam Gargett have joined the Faculty of Education and Creative Arts.

The Centre for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence (CPDFV) welcomes new director Heather Nancarrow. Dr Susan Rees and Michelle Bradford have also been appointed to positions in the Centre recently.

Tania Himing and Kevin Greenwood will be the new faces in the Faculty of Informatics & Communication. Shane Hopkinson has filled Dr Helen Waite’s position in the Faculty of Arts, Health and Sciences, with Dr Waite moving to a research role at CPDFV.

Trudy Schieb starts on 4 February as an Associate Lecturer Learning Support and will lecture the STEPS course and is responsible for Communications Learning Centre support.

CQU Orientation Week celebrations will kick-start the autumn semester from 24 to 28 February.
