Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQU-backed songs destined for BBC TV series 

Two songs from 'Saltwater Songs: Indigenous Maritime Music from Tropical Australia' have been licenced by BBC Television for the travel series 'Ray Mears Goes Walkabout', a focus on bushcraft and survival techniques.

'High Tide in the Mangrove' by Aboriginal didjeriduist and dancer David Hudson from Cairns and 'Mene Mene/Sanarima' by the Saima Torres Strait Islander Cultural Group from Rockhampton were produced by CQU Associate Professor Karl Neuenfeldt and Nigel Pegrum of Pegasus Studios in Cairns.

The songs were recorded as part of a community CD project funded by CQU's Merit Grant scheme.
