Rockhampton staff get better prepared

Staff from Central Queensland University Rockhampton has been undertaking emergency response training over the last few months to make the campus better prepared for emergency situations.
Health and Safety legislation requires that each building on-campus has a building fire warden and each floor has a warden. These fire wardens are required to attend the training session provided by the Health and Safety division.
Health and Safety officer Viv Murphy said it was the fire wardens’ job to takes control and evacuate the building in case of emergency.
There have been four training sessions to date where 150 staff has been involved. The sessions have focused on preparing for emergencies, controlling emergencies, types of fire extinguishers and their uses, and detecting hazards.
“It is all about developing a better safety culture within the University. People are often blasi about safety – we are trying to change this and create an environment that is safe and make staff more safety conscious.
“It’s all about looking after ourselves and others.
