Fiji Campus graduate has bright motto

It must be said that the longevity and success of the humble `lightbulb joke’ is in no small part due to the truth that lurks within each punchline.

We’ve all chuckled at the lawyer and accountant lightbulb jokes and no doubt have found amusement when our own profession has been the subject of a few laughs.

For Sandhiya Goundar, Acting Library Manager at Central Queensland University Fiji International Campus, the answer to the “how many librarians does it take to change a lightbulb” riddle just so happens to be her personal motto. “Let me help you find the answer".

PhotoID:2779 Not only can she tell you how many librarians it takes to change a lightbulb, Sandhiya can also back up her response with a plethora of online resources, the latest research findings and a dozen or more alternative sources to investigate.

To top it all off, it’s more than likely she can get her hands on the latest lightbulb-changing-librarian statistics. And that’s just for starters.

On Monday April 24, Sandhiya took her place in the line of 32 students awarded their degrees at the CQU Fiji International Campus’ graduation ceremony.

The Graduation was held at Tradewinds Convention Centre, and was an exciting occasion in that Sandhiya received her Bachelor of Business Administration as the first Fiji Campus staff member to graduate from the University while also working on campus.

The wealth of knowledge and experience that Sandhiya Goundar has obtained at only 25 years of age is impressive and can be attributed to the dedication she has applied to her profession and its demands.

Before her degree she obtained a Library Studies Certificate and is now looking forward to July, when she will begin her Masters of Applied Science studies, specialising in library and information management.

This study schedule, teamed with her full-time Acting Library Manager duties, would be enough to exhaust even the most ambitious of academics. Sandhiya, however, keeps her eyes focused on the future.

“ I’m very excited about this graduation, because I’ve worked so hard for so many years, “ Goundar says, “ but I want to explore my horizons in Australia, and so I‘m determined to be the best at my profession that I can be".

If you can believe that there is such a thing as spare time in Sandhiya Goundar’s life, then you would find it being spent beyond the shelves of literature and into the great outdoors. Not that there’s been a lot of time for horse-riding or running lately, since her graduation will also coincide with another major event next week – her wedding.

So how does she do it all? Goundar’s sage advice is simple.

“It’s all about time-management. My studies have taught me that you have to plan your time effectively if you don’t want to make extra stress and trouble for yourself".

It seems that perhaps the answer to the lightbulb question needs to be altered in order to do justice to this extraordinary young woman.

So how many librarians does it take to change a lightbulb at CQU Fiji International Campus? None..... because they’ve already got a bright spark.
