CQUniversity staff and students took part in recent celebrations of International Nurses Day at Rockhampton's Heritage Village Shearing Shed.
The celebrations included a keynote address by former Rockhampton nurse Mike Paterson, who now commands the Air Force deployable health capability as Officer Commanding Health Services Wing.
The Nurses Day workshop included presentations from a range of nursing specialists, including CQUniversity Associate Professor Kerry Reid-Searl, who discussed 'Simulation in Nurse Education' and Judith Applegarth who represented 'highly qualified' nursing students.
The Shearing Shed was also the venue for an evening program and Great Debate, including input from CQUniversity Nursing student Sherrie Lee and Nursing and Midwifery Dean Professor Ysanne Chapman.
The Great Debate on Generalist Nurses: Who Needs Them? was adjudicated by CQUniversity alumnus Tony Gubbins and Emeritus Professor Amy Zelmer was on the judging panel.
CQUniversity academics Associate Professor Trudy Dwyer and Justine Connor were an integral part of the Nurses Day planning committee, which met throughout the year and brought together nursing leaders, both past and present, from across Central Queensland.
The International Nurses Day Committee included representatives from Rockhampton Hospital, Queensland Health, CQUniversity, Mater Hospital, Hillcrest Private Hospital, CQ TAFE and the Australian Country Hospital Heritage Association.
