Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Labor pledge to upgrade Engineering facilities 

Member for Capricornia Kirsten Livermore visited CQU Rockhampton yesterday (October 6) to pledge that a Latham Labor Government would provide $7.2 million to upgrade engineering buildings for a new socio-technology centre.

"The new $7.2 million Centre will provide a more efficient learning and research environment, and will work with the community and local industry," the announcement says.

"CQU will have access to Federal Labor's new University Infrastructure Fund.".

The same document pledges increased education opportunities.

"CQU in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Mackay ... will all receive increased funding under a Federal Labor Government.

"Labor's Quality Enhancement Fund will give Northern Australia's universities the funding security they need for the future.

"All of Northern Australia's universities will also receive funding under Federal Labor's Community Engagement Fund, which recognises the unique role that regional universities play in their communities.

"Northern Australian universities will be major recipients of Labor's new funding to support the role of regional universities as educational leaders and as a resource to thier local communities.".
