Nathaniel chases jazz dream in the US

Former Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) student and talented bass and lead guitarist, Nathaniel Andrews is about to head to the US to audition for the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Cincinnati, where he is hoping to study a Masters program in Jazz.

Breezing through his Bachelor of Jazz program at the CQCM, Nathaniel was mentored and encouraged by his lecturers to apply to study in the US; the country where the music style of jazz was born.

After sending 10 audition tapes to various universities in the US, feedback began rolling in around May last year and acknowledged what local jazz lecturers Derrin Kerr and Glen Hodges had always known; that Nathaniel is exceptionally talented. With support from CQU Mackay, Nathaniel will head to the US on Monday to give a live audition, meet his teacher and research scholarships to access support for living and tuition costs.

Nathaniel has spent the past 3 years studying alongside 30 other CQCM students and laughs at the prospect of being one of 750 Conservatorium students amongst a University student population of  36,000.

"That's a lot more than what I am used to!" jokes Nathaniel.

Nathaniel will spend a week at Cincinnati, Ohio before returning home to continue planning his higher studies in jazz.
