CQU's Health and Physical Education students began 2007 in a spacious, state-of-the-art lecture space, conveniently located in the heart of CQU's sports precinct.

The air-conditioned teaching space includes sound attenuation and a roof-mounted data projector.

As part of the upgrade of the CQU gym, Health and Physical Education lecturer David LaPere will be teaching 100 students this term in facilities comparable to the most modern lecture theatres on the main campus.

"I am very excited about the new facility as it will provide a level of comfort that will be conducive to good learning outcomes for students," Mr LaPere said.

"The provision of a ceiling mounted data projector and other technological features will certainly aid the delivery of quality presentations."

The lecture space is located beside the upgraded gym, tennis and netball courts, pool and indoor Community Sports Centre.

"The access to the other sporting facilities is of great importance and this has been retained with the new refurbishment.  I believe the new room to be the best non-theatre teaching space in the University and may well be the model/prototype for the future," Mr LaPere said.

Facilities Management Buildings Project Officer Phil McBryde commented: "The new teaching area will certainly complement the existing sports facilities and will cater for an increased number of students undertaking degree courses."

Work on remodelling the front entrance to the sports precinct commenced this week, enabling easier access from the highway directly to the gym area.
