CQUniversity has teamed up with Rockhampton Regional Council to encourage stakeholders to talk about health, to identify issues and to create proactive health strategies for the 10-year community plan*.
An invitation featuring Mayor Brad Carter and Vice-Chancellor Scott Bowman is promoting a regional health conference, from 9.30am to 2.30pm on Thursday May 26 at the Cancer Council Queensland facility at 43 Upper Dawson Road in Rockhampton.
Interested participants should RSVP by Monday, May 23, via 07 4939 9930 or beheard@rrc.qld.gov.au
CQUniversity Associate Professor Peter Reaburn, who has been helping coordinate the event, says staff from our Institute for Health and Social Science Research (IHSSR) have been working with Council and other government officers to develop an extensive database of health-related researchers, allied health professionals, local, state and federal government and non-government stakeholders, Division of GPs representatives, gym owners, town planners and other practicing health professionals.
"This has been a wonderful opportunity to engage CQUniversity staff and health policy-makers and practitioners in networking and working together for the common good," Associate Professor Reaburn said.
* The Community Plan is a 10-year plan, commencing from July 2012, that will identify the community's aspirations, needs and priorities to provide a framework for our future and detail how we can achieve the community's desired outcomes. It is a whole of community plan and has the potential to lead to community improvement, tailored community services and better decision making and investment.
