2020 Summit's 'golden guru' walks the talk at Brisbane campus

Brisbane 76-year-old Ernie Peralta - who gained renown through his 2020 Summit suggestion of planting ‘golden gurus' in workplaces - is not just talking the talk.

He is also embodying his vision by continuing to work as a marketing lecturer at CQU Brisbane International Campus, at an age when many people are planning caravan trips around Australia.

Ernie won an ‘in 25 words' newspaper competition to gain a place in the productivity agenda of the national ideas event.

And he has since been overwhelmed by the attention of media and his Summit colleagues, including personally expressed praise from Deputy Prime Minister Julie Gillard.

Ernie admits to "almost hyperventilating" when receiving a personal note from Ms Gillard referring to him as "my golden guru".

"I will certainly frame it," he said. "I'm still floating at the recognition amongst all the high-level academics and VIPs".

"The Golden Guru idea was exceptional in that most of the big ideas submitted were synthesized group ideas while this poor old geezer presented one unadulterated idea, I can proudly call my own, and was reported as one of the top big ideas presented in the master document for action by Kevin Rudd.

"May I dare say that my work for this is just beginning and I hope that some of our CQU staff might want to get this off the ground with me, providing me with creative ideas.

"I had jokingly stated among our co-panel members that this was a Freebie to Kevin because he preferred ideas based on 'no cost or little cost' and my idea meets his standard big time."
