When Jenny Binsiar has a good idea she won't be happy until it's actioned!
Such was the case with the new resource developed by the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence and its Mackay Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander reference group, of which Jenny is a part. CDFVR is hosted at CQUniversity Mackay.

Strong Women - Hard Yarns will be launched at the Social Emotional Wellbeing Unit of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Services, 8 Tennyson Street Mackay, on August 20 at 10am. If you'd like to attend please call Annie Webster at CDFVR on 4940 7838.
Jenny saw the need for a resource specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young women, middle-aged women and older women. She wanted the resource to provide a range of information, including how to recognise domestic violence, the difference between respectful and disrespectful relationships, and where to find services specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
"Knowing you can go to a service where you feel comfortable and can receive culturally appropriate information is important," Jenny said.
The booklet contains a range of real-life stories by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who have been subjected to domestic or family violence, and information to encourage them to seek support.
"Reading other women's stories helps women realise that they can overcome an abusive relationship too," explained Jenny.
