What is the Student System Upgrade Project?
Published on 02 August, 2007
The Student System Upgrade Project (SSUP) commenced late last year. Its purpose is to upgrade the existing student administration software to the Oracle Campus Solutions v8.9. Some of the reasons for upgrading are:
- Existing system is only supported by the vendor until August 2008
- Reduce the ongoing cost of maintenance by reducing the number of system modifications
- An opportunity to review business processes to support the University's "best practice" strategy
- Information technology infrastructure is approaching the end of its life cycle
- Provides an opportunity to remove duplication of work effort
- Improve system access by delivering a web-based system
- System with the same web-based look and feel as the recently implemented Finance and HR systems
- Delivery of an improved web-based self-service module for staff and students
The SSUP team is made up of key internal staff members and contractors. All of the management and most of the senior positions in the project team are held by CQU employees. All of the staff members on the project bring a wealth of knowledge relating to the current system and the business and procedures within the University. The contractors contribute their knowledge and experience they have gained from many and varied organisations including other universities.
