Real jobs available at 'virtual' careers fair

Our students and graduates are being encouraged to participate in a Virtual Careers Fair, being activated on-line from Monday, March 23 and running until April 9.

Those who would like a sneak peek of the Fair being constructed online can visit: http://www.vcf.graduatecareers.com.au/

The Virtual Careers Fair is an annual online careers event where tertiary students and graduates can connect in real-time with graduate employers and career services from anywhere in Australia and New Zealand.

CQUniversity's CareerHub is actively engaging with the Fair and is offering its own direct portal at http://content.cqu.edu.au/FCWViewer/view.do?page=7017#1 to supplement the national event.

The Fair will be in 'preview' state from March 23, allowing students to pre-plan their visits during the active phase of the Fair when live CareerChat sessions take place (March 30 - April 9).

The site will remain open in a passive state for a three-month period after April 9.

The primary components of VCF are:

  • a searchable database of employers and employer profiles - available from 23/3
  • a job search facility - search by discipline and industry - available from 23/3
  • direct web links to the exhibitor's recruitment websites and application areas - available from 23/3
  • real-time online chat rooms which provide a forum for exhibitors and students to speak directly to one another - students can even access the VCF chat timetable and select sessions of interest via Facebook! - chat sessions will commence on 30/3, and daily prizes will be awarded for participation.
  • the VCF Pod Centre, which contains downloadable podcasts with employer interviews and video clips - available from 23/3
  • resources to support students' job search activities - available from 23/3
  • interactive facilities for students, such as the very popular Interview Quiz and daily Mini-Surveys, with daily prizes for participation in these areas
