Exercise at the heart of the matter

Jetts Rockhampton is calling on local residents to measure up and look out for their heart health as part of its Open Heart Day on Saturday, October 27.
The 24-hour gym will be offering a $45 saving on the joining fee and donating $10 for every person who joins on Open Heart Day to the Heart Foundation.
Jetts Rockhampton Club Manager, Marina Walters said the aim of Open Heart Day was to help people think about their heart health and what they can do to keep it pumping.
"Our main goal is to help the community better understand how regular exercise and other healthy lifestyle choices have an impact on their heart health," Marina said.
"Our personal trainers will be on hand to recommend new and exciting exercises to get your heart pumping."
Heart disease remains the number one killer of Australian women, with 90 percent of women carrying at least one risk factor.
Physical inactivity is the second highest risk factor of heart disease (after smoking), with 72 percent of Australians not sufficiently active.
"It's particularly important for women who feel they may be at risk, to know they are not alone and that there are many ways to turn their chances around, the easiest being diet and exercise," she said.
Members of the public can join Jetts Rockhampton on Open Heart Day between 9am and 4pm to help raise money for the Heart Foundation.
Models from Rockhampton's Catwalk Company - a non-profit organisation that Jetts Rockhampton sponsors - will also be holding a fashion parade on the day to raise awareness of healthy living among younger generations.
Jetts Rockhampton is located at Stockland Rockhampton, Cnr Yaamba Road and Highway One. To join in on the fun at Open Heart Day, email the team at rockhampton@jetts.com.au.
