Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Maruta Rodan biographical information 

Maruta Rodan, BArts Adelaide, MEd Monash, was born of immigrant and completed her primary and secondary schooling in Adelaide, before attending Adelaide University.

She began teaching as a career in South Australia, before moving to Melbourne where she took up a role as Administration Manager at Chisholm Institute (since amalgamated with Monash University) and later became National Education Officer with the Securities Institute of Australia.  These positions were followed by work with the Longman Cheshire Publications Group at their Business Law Education Centre and a management role with the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Tasmania & Victoria).

This wealth of varied experience provided a solid foundation for her next role as Chief Executive Officer of Materials Australia, where she was instrumental in transforming the Institute by revitalising activities and improving services, as well as achieving an excellent financial position and enhanced reputation in both the government and industry sectors.   As a result, the organisation and National Council are now respected both locally and internationally for the quality of their advice, industry networks and expertise.

Since retiring recently from this role, Maruta continues to offer her expertise as a business consultant with Kirra Australia, a group of companies that includes galleries showcasing the best of Australian-made glass and also offers promotional materials and merchandise to the corporate sector.
