Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Visiting Conductor Leads Music Bowl Event 

Visiting conductor Martin Jarvis (pictured) will lead around 100 performers for a Music Spectacular at Rockhampton Music Bowl, from 7pm on Saturday November 16.

PhotoID:361 The 'Stars Under The Stars' event will feature Rockhampton Concert Orchestra, Capricornia Silver Band, Bachelor of Performing Arts dance students and guest soloists. It will be presented by Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, part of the Faculty of Education and Creative Arts at Central Queensland University.

Adult admission is only $5 with children free.

Martin Jarvis is renowned for boosting the reputation of Darwin Symphony Orchestra.

As a violinist, he has studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and has performed with the London Mozart Players, the Halle Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

During his visit to Rockhampton, Martin has offered to provide free string workshops for school-age students, free private lessons for advanced players and a free symposium for interested teachers.
