Australia Day celebration at CQU Brisbane

Students and staff at CQU Brisbane International Campus celebrated Australia Day in a real Aussie style.

Both students and staff came dressed as traditional Aussies, wearing shorts and thongs, and enjoyed the feast of traditional ‘Aussie Tucker’: meat pies, damper, Vegemite sandwiches, lamingtons and ANZAC biscuits.

PhotoID:3665 The students participated in an Aussie Slang Quiz, and prizes were awarded for understanding Australian jargon.

The highlight of the celebration was the native Australian animals show by Gecko’s Wildlife Rangers.

Students could touch and pat a couple of pythons, a baby crocodile, a ‘blue tongue’ lizard, a glider, a turtle and a frog.

PhotoID:3666 While the crocodile was a big attraction, the students were especially excited to be able to hold the python and have it wrapped around their bodies.

The Vegemite sandwich tasting proved less of a favourite.

The event was a huge success and was entirely enjoyed by all – as you can see from the photos.
