Property professionals ensure relevance of degree

Professionals from the property sector and allied industries have joined a liaison committee to ensure the continuing relevance of CQU's Bachelor of Property degree.
The committee members include valuers, an engineer, a surveyor, a bank representative, a lawyer and real estate agents.

This industry committee contains the main employer groups and members also have a strong interest in joint research with the property staff and students.
CQU Property lecturer Dr Kristy Richardson said the 'industry liaison committee' was an essential part of the reaccreditation process of the Australian Property Institute's (API) national education board. It is chaired by Herron Todd White's Rockhampton manager Wayne Litherland.
Dr Richardson, herself a solicitor with experience in conveyancing, said CQU's property degree started in 2005 and the first crop of graduates (who completed in 2007) had been enthusiastically welcomed by valuation firms throughout Queensland.
The other key to development of CQU's property degree has been CQU Adjunct Professor of Property Terry Boyd, who is a leading Queensland valuer and senior API member.

The Bachelor of Property provides enhanced opportunities for graduates to become property professionals, including working as a property valuer, manager, developer, analyst, market researcher, land economist, consultant or portfolio manager.
The Bachelor of Property is offered by distance education and can be completed in 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time.
